Who We Are

Great American Downtown (GAD), was established in July of 2002.  GAD was created to develop and implement programs, projects and events that positively shape the downtown experience. Our boundaries are from the Hunt Library building to the Hunt Retirement Community, and our east/west boundaries go out two blocks from Main Street, including the Millyard.

What  We Do

2008 marks Great American Downtown’s sixth anniversary as downtown Nashua’s revitalization organization. GAD is dedicated to promoting the entire downtown as a destination for retail, dining, business services, arts and culture and as a residential community.

Promotions

Downtown Dollars gift certificates. Accepted at over 80 downtown businesses, including retail stores, restaurants, hair salons, attorneys, theater groups and more, Downtown Dollars are a great tool for encouraging shoppers to explore the variety of opportunities downtown has to offer.

Events

One of the most important goals of the organization is to find ways to bring people downtown.  GAD produces two signature events during the year that bring thousands of people downtown for two very unique and exciting nights,The Taste of Downtown Nashua and the Winter Holiday Stroll. For more information, visit our event page.

Brochures

The “Enjoy Downtown Nashua” brochure, with comprehensive parking information and directions to downtown is available in four NH Welcome Centers, as well as Nashua City Hall, Public Library, several area hotels and member locations.

Video

Produced in partnership with TV 13 Nashua, the 3 1/2 minute video describes everything from downtown’s early industrial history, to the variety of retail, culinary and entertainment opportunities available in present day Nashua. GAD is currently in the process of working with TV 13 Nashua to turn this video into 30-second commercial spots.

Physical Improvements

Our Downtown tree lights, add light and festive charm to downtown each night throughout the holiday season.

Maintenance

Weekly sidewalk litter removal program.  Since 2006, GAD has been working in partnership with the PLUS Company throughout the summer. Twice a week from 10 am -12 pm, volunteers pick up the litter that lingers on our downtown sidewalks. We feel that this program provides a great supplement to the Nashua Street Department’s work by keeping the sidewalks clean more frequently, thus continuing to send the message to the public that downtown is a clean, safe and friendly place to visit.
